Supporting Frosted Pink is consistent with Merck’s commitment to putting patients first. We believe that empowered, informed patients are best equipped to face the challenge of being diagnosed with cancer. At Merck Oncology, we honor all women with cancer for their strength and courage, and the caregivers who embrace them. Going through chemo can be difficult, but medicines such as EMEND can help make the experience more bearable.

Stand up to chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting with the help of EMEND

For people diagnosed with cancer, chemo can be a lifesaver. Unfortunately, chemo often has side effects. One of these side effects is chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, also known as CINV.

Many people think that CINV is unavoidable. Fortunately, there is good news. Medicines such as EMEND can help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemo before it even starts. EMEND is used along with other anti–nausea and vomiting medicines and works by stopping the brain from receiving signals that cause nausea and vomiting.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: EMEND is only used to help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy. It is not used to get rid of nausea and vomiting after they start.

Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines, if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, or if you have liver problems. EMEND may cause serious life-threatening reactions if used with certain medicines. (See the section “Who should not take EMEND?” in the Patient Product Information.) EMEND may also affect some medicines, including chemotherapy, causing them to work differently in your body. Women who use birth control medicines during treatment with EMEND and for up to 1 month after using EMEND should also use a backup method of contraception to avoid pregnancy.

The most common side effects of EMEND are tiredness, nausea, hiccups, constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, headache, and hair loss. These are not all the possible side effects of EMEND.

EMEND is available by prescription only.

Please read the Patient Product Information and discuss it with your doctor. The physician Prescribing Information is also available.

Are you at risk of CINV?

Chemotherapy affects everyone differently. However, there are certain factors that can put you at higher risk of CINV. They include:

  • Being a woman
  • Being younger than age 50
  • A history of nausea and vomiting (during or after past cancer treatments)
  • The type and amount of chemotherapy (certain chemotherapies or combinations are more likely to cause nausea and vomiting than others)
  • A history of motion sickness, morning sickness, or both If one or more of these factors applies to you, talk to your doctor or nurse today.
